Abstract

Abstract The type locality of Papakura Limestone, the basal formation of the lower Miocene Waitemata Group, has been rediscovered. A standard locality is established for the formation in Hays Stream, near Papakura. Rocks exposed at the standard locality include Upper Jurassic “greywacke”, Eocene to lower Oligocene Te Kuiti Group coal measures, and lower Miocene Papakura Limestone and Waikawau Sandstone of the Waitemata Group.
