Abstract

While the Mohole Project is the main U. S. effort to drill a hole to the Earth's mantle, two additional drilling sites are being considered, one in Puerto Rico and the other in the South Atlantic at St. Peter and St. Paul Rocks. One important aspect of the land drilling is to test equipment and techniques for possible use in the deep‐sea drilling program.The National Science Foundation has announced the tentative selection of Brown and Root, Inc., of Houston as the prime contractor in Phase II of the Mohole Project.
