Abstract

1) The type of mitotic movement as seen in the X of Protenor is radically different in the two spermatocyte divisions, and differs from that of correspondingly long chromosomes of Amphibia.2) In the equation division, the entire broadside of the X serves as a base for the half-spindle component.3) In the reduction division the X is connected with both poles through a single delicate fibre.4) The nature of the interzonal connections in the Gase of long chromosomes is discussed.
