Abstract
Under conditions which are sufficiently general for physical applications the trace inequalities $$tr e^{ - (A + B)} \leqq tr e^{ - A} e^{ - B} $$ and $$|tr e^{ - (A + iB)} | \leqq tr e^{ - A} $$ withA andB self adjoint are shown in a rigorous manner.
