Abstract

Noting the difference between the proton-neutron pair in the nucleus and deuteron, the cross-section for absorption of the photon by all the proton-neutron pairs is calculated. Photonuclear interaction is taken to be of the classical type so as to mark the connection of the high-energy nuclear photoeffect with the low-energy. The calculation is performed taking the Pauli principle into consideration both in the initial and the final states. The dependence of the cross-section on the short range correlation between the nucleons in the nucleus is carefully discussed. It also is shown in detail how the cross-section varies with the photon energy. There should be found a notable characteristic which suggests the range of validity of the quasi-deuteron model for nuclear photo-disintegration.
