Abstract

Summary.The swelling of desheathed peripheral frog nerve, soaked in buffered Ringer's solution, is dependent on the pH of the solution and has a minimal value at a pH of about 5. This result is consistent with the hypothesis that the swelling is due to absorption of water by the connective tissue.
