Abstract

Equations are set out which determine the focusing properties of electron beams in magnetic fields whose scalar potential has a plane of antisymmetry. From these is derived the condition that a proposed ray-axis and associated focusing requirements should be physically realizable. It is also shown that the fringe-effect of fields with sharply defined boundaries may be characterized by a pair of focal lengths for which formulae are given.
