Abstract

In a previous paper [9], the behaviour of a pre-existing front within the velocity field of a typhoon was investigated, considering that the front is a substantial line. Kinematical computations of the undulation and displacement of the pre-existing front was carried out, in relation with the exratropical transformation of typhoons, by using the method newly developed from the Petterssen method of successive approximation-trajectories of air parcels. In the present paper, using the same kinematical equations, the condition for invasion of the pre-existing front into the typhoon area which is the necessary condition for the extratropical transformation of typhoons in thecomplex type is considered in relation with outbreaks of cold air.
