Abstract

Earlier analyses 1, 2 of the accelerating disk problem were limited to disks of uniform thickness. Disks of variable thickness are analyzed in this note, with exact results plotted for the thickness profile Ar n . The shape of a constant shear stress disk is derived and an example is given. It is found that, for any thickness profile, the solution for the normal stresses σ r and σ θ is independent of the solution for the shear stress τ rθ .
