Abstract

Abstract The electrodeposition of metal ion dissolved from the positive electrode on the negative electrode in a few nematic liquid crystal mediums under DC electric field was studied in this paper. The nematic liquid crystal compounds used were anysilidene—p-aminophenylacetate and p-methoxy-benzylidene—p-n-butylaniline nad p-cyano-p-pentylbiphenly, and the metals used as the positive electrode were Agand Cu. The electrodeposition phenomena were observed in both nematic and isotropic phase of the medium. Plots of amount of Ag deposited against amount of electricity obeyed the Faraday equation, although the efficiency was only 7–26%.
