Abstract

The cities which were built in Minas Gerais on the XVIII century are outstanding because of their notable historical and cultural inheritance, that were results of the important development of Minas Gerais due to the mineral exploration. Across the centuries, a great part of the historical inheritance became extinct and the part that remained can disappear owing to the lack of solid strategies of protection and management of the inheritance, subject that is still premature in the institutions that deal with it. In this setting is Caete, where the inheritance was almost completely demolished, and those which are still up have no management, rescue and restoration. In this way, this work makes a short reflection about the historical inheritance that still remains in Caete, analyzing the public institutions actions and also private actions to protect, preserve and maintain it.
