Abstract
The chemistry of the CO bond in alkoxide ligands is reviewed, including various systems from the literature and from the author's laboratory. Related chemistry of hydroxide, aryloxide, and allyloxide ligands is also discussed. Cleavage or formation of the alkoxide CO bond can occur in a homolytic or heterolytic fashion, for instance by addition of R + or R åd to a metal oxo group. CO cleavage or formation can also occur by exchange of R with the metal oxo group. CO cleavage or formation can also occur by exchange of R with the metal center or another ligand. In general, a CO or OH bond should be considered activated in systems where a related metal-oxo complex is accessible.
