Abstract

Chelsea Pensioners lined up at the Royal Hospital Chelsea to help start the demolition of their old infirmary. The 1960s infirmary is being knocked down to make way for new residential accommodation. The project is being paid for through a campaign that aims to raise £35 million by March 2008. The hospital was built in 1692 to provide for retired soldiers, and today looks after 300 men.
