Abstract

Latest advances In the treatment of epilepsy mean that 'absences' or 'funny turns' may be a thing of the past, experts meeting in London heard last week. The international conference, organised by the National Society for Epilepsy, was also attended by seven-year-old Arran Sheppard, left, who explained what form his 'absences' took. A new Centre for Epilepsy was due to be opened at The Maudsley Hospital by junior health minister John Bowis yesterday. Among the services offered, the centre will provide help for those newly diagnosed as well as sufferers with chronic and intractable epilepsy.
