Abstract

In the present study, two different isolates of Nosema chaetocnemae Yaman and Radek, 2003 (Protista: Microspora) in C haetocnemae tibialis populations in Trabzon and Samsun provinces were compared in the infectivity and morphological characteristics and discussed taxonomically. Totally 237 C. tibialis adults from Samsun and 438 from Trabzon were collected and examined for microsporidian infection . Spores of the two isolates were measured and photographed using an Olympus BX51 microscope with a DP-25 digital camera and a DP2-BSW Soft Imaging System. The microsporidian pathogen was observed in two investigated localities. While an average infection rate was found as 23.7% in Trabzon, it was found as 44.3% in Samsun. The lowest rates were found as 15.8 and 35% and the highest rate 25 and 55% in Trabzon and Samsun, respectively. Significant differences were detected between spore morphology of the two microsporidian isolates. Presence of Nosema chaetocnemae in Trabzon and Samsun provinces has been studied extensively.
