Abstract

IN A COMMON WORLD. STUDIES ON CYPRIAN NORWID’S THOUGHT, IMAGINATION AND SOCIAL ATTITUDE We wspólnym świecie. Studia o myśli, wyobraźni i postawie społecznej Cypriana Norwida [In a Common World. Studies on Cyprian Norwid’s Thought, Imagination and Social Attitude] is a monographic treatment of the notion of the common world in Cyprian Norwid’s works. This issue is reflected in the writer’s entire output, and evoked by means of various philosophical and ethical traditions, interpretations of community life, particular role models as well as the social behaviour and artistic gestures of the writer himself. Equally diverse here are the media used to transmit the sense of community. These include poetry in its different variants, artistic and journalistic prose, drama, epistolography and public addresses. From this varied source material a description of Norwid’s original understanding of the common world emerges in the course of interdisciplinary analyses taking into account the findings of the history of ideas, philosophy, sociology, theology and above all the history of literature and culture of the 19th century. The volume comprises a series of closely related studies, divided into three parts: Spotkania u źródeł [Encounters at the sources], Norwidowska paideia [Norwid’s paideia], Żywe słowo [Spoken word].
