Abstract

This work presents brief geotectonic characteristics of the region, which includes Baikalian, Caledonian, Hercynian, and Alpine structural assemblages. Rocks of all, except Carboniferous, systems compose the sedimentary cover. The presence of plutonic rocks is possible. Occurrences of sedimentary iron ores were established in the Cambrian, Triassic, and Jurassic rocks. The Silurian, Triassic, and Jurassic rocks reveal the highest potential for stratiform base and rare metal (Cu, Pb, Zn, V, Mo) deposits. Allite occurrences were found in the Ordovician, Silurian, and Upper Permian rocks, thus indicating the possible bauxite potential of this region. The Quaternary rocks are likely to be prospective for polymineral placers.
