Abstract

The first play about sectarian violence in the north of Ireland was St. John Ervine's Mixed Marriage (191 I). The next, or at any rate the next of note, was Sam Thompson's Over the Bridge (1960). John Boyd's The Assassin was produced at the Dublin Theatre Festival in (1960), and his The Flats at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast, in 1971.
