Abstract

Forensic anthropology is a relatively new discipline; tt was in Europe, in the 19th century, that the first investigations of human remains took place. But perhaps the United States is the country in which the first investigations were developed, where anthropologists were invited to collaborate in legal medical matters. The influence of American research in Latin America has been a cornerstone in the development of forensic teams; the formation of the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team or the Forensic Anthropology of Guatemala, to cite two examples, can only be understood as the result of work in collaboration with North American anthropologists.
