Abstract

INTRODUCTION Several studies of training issues for nurses caring for patients with leg ulcers have been published. Nelson and Ruck:leyl investigated a group of 18 nurses attending a leg ulcer study day. They found that these nurses were achieving unsatisfactory standards of bandaging technique. However after training and feedback there was a measurable improvement. ErtF found on the whole, that district nurses were aware of the wealth of research findings on the treatment of leg ulcers. However they were still experiencing problems with the fear of possible isch:emic involvement and patient non compliance. The research indicated the need for ready access to portable Doppler ultrasound equipment.
