Abstract
This study seeks to measure differences in economic freedom among the Canadian provinces and US states. The North American Economic Freedom Index is an extension of the Economic Freedom of the World Index, which measures economic freedom on an international level. The calculation of the North American Economic Freedom Index allows us for the first time to investigate the relationship between economic freedom and economic growth within North America. The study examines how economic freedom affects the level and the growth of economic activity. The results show that economic freedom is strongly correlated with both measures of economic performance.
