Abstract

Significance State governments also increasingly dominate the welfare sector, and authorities have cracked down on Islamist-leaning NGOs in recent years. Yet the war in Gaza and the possibility that MB-linked and other Islamist-leaning political parties could endure repression holds out prospects for their resurgence. Impacts The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egypt will counter any MB efforts to organise again on a region-wide basis. Jihadist organisations will try to recruit among marginalised communities that have no political means of channelling grievances. Turkish ties with Egypt and Saudi Arabia will grow as Ankara reduces its willingness to accommodate MB figures.
