Abstract

Communication technologies are by no means «neutral vehicles» for the transmission of messages. Because they have to be normatively as well as symbolically anchored, their social and communicative meaningful dimensions are indicated. On the one hand social rules for using the technologies are created, on the other hand by using them in a social practice they get also social meaning. Thereby the content, transmittet by the communication-media is affected: Like every form of mediated communication the usage of certain media has a metacommunicative function, influencing the interpretation of messages
