Abstract

The elastic local shear buckling of trapezoidal corrugated steel web (TCSW) with clamped edges is investigated using finite element methods. An improved method is proposed to calculate the local buckling stress of TCSW with unequal widths of longitudinal fold panel and inclined fold panel. The simpler calculation method proposed by this study agrees well with the numerical analysis results and the previous calculation methods when the buckling is controlled by local buckling. The interactive shear buckling stress and buckling slenderness ratio are suggested for the local buckling-dominated TCSW. Test results also demonstrate that the suggested buckling slenderness ratio has a strong correlation with the normalized shear strength. Finally, the normalized shear strength equation is proposed for the local buckling-dominated TCSWs, which is accompanied with the approximate condition.
