Abstract
Normal zone generation and propagation measurements were conducted on Ag‐coated YBa2Cu3O7−δ/Ni‐alloy coated conductors. The samples were conduction cooled by a cryocooler in a vacuum, establishing nearly adiabatic conditions. A NiCr wire heater was pulsed to generate a localized normal region allowing measurements of quench energies, at which the normal zone propagates. The normal zone propagation velocities are also reported.
