Abstract

Extensive measurements of the normal-state susceptibility have been performed on high-quality Y 2Ba 4Cu 7O x samples with different oxygen contents. We find a temperature dependence of the susceptibility similar to that of other high- T c superconductors such as YBa 2Cu 3O 7−δ. upon approaching the optimum hole doping, the normal-state susceptibility tends to become temperature-independent except for the region where superconducting fluctuations play a substantial role. For high- T c samples (onset: 95 K) the susceptibility displays a very large rounding above T c which can be attributed to 3D-2D superconducting fluctuations. The fluctuation temperature range extends 100 K above T c.
