Abstract

A calibration method with strain gages for normal and tangential forces has been developed. The method was used for the fretting fatigue test with square-shaped punch type pad. Since all the obtained calibration curves were linear, the curves facilitated easily the in-situ measurement of the normal and tangential forces during the fretting fatigue test. Since the behavior of a fretting fatigue crack depends on the applied forces and contact length, in-situ monitoring of the crack and the forces enables more accurate evaluation of the behavior of the crack.
