Abstract
Nordel is a flue-cured tobacco cultivar developed at the Agriculture Canada Research Station, Delhi, Ontario. The cultivar has agronomic characteristics very similar to Virginia 115. It has better tolerance to black root rot and weatherfleck diseases. Nordel produces cured leaf of superior chemical, physical and grade characteristics with preferential buyers’ rating compared to Virginia 115. It was licensed in 1979 and was grown in 1980 as the first crop on approximately 33% of the flue-cured tobacco acreage.
