Abstract

AbstractMost of the known technologies for the production of low-concentration sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) are based on the electrolysis of artificially prepared solutions of table salt. The trend of increasing the capacity of electrolysis plants required solving a number of auxiliary problems, primarily related to ensuring zero-waste technology of large-tonnage production of sodium hypochlorite in preparation of hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of drinking water per day by including in the general technological scheme of electrolysis the units for treatment and reuse of effluents (with separation and utilization of insoluble phase). Methods for environmentally friendly and non-waste large-capacity production of sodium hypochlorite are described. It has been shown that the acid decarbonization method is preferable for conditioning water used for the preparation of saline solutions, as it excludes the formation of any associated effluents. It is much cheaper than cationic softening and allows using any grade of salt. Saturators for the preparation of saturated salt solution shall be equipped with flushing systems similar to quick water filters with the removal of flushing water to the purification system and its reuse in the salt dissolution scheme.KeywordsDecontaminationSodium hypochloriteElectrolysisSofteningDecarbonizationWastewater
