Abstract

The item entitled “Non-use of force in international relations and permanent prohibition of the use of nuclear weapons” was included in the agenda of the twenty-seventh session of the General Assembly in 1972, at the request of the Soviet Union. For the first time, the prohibition of the use of nuclear weapons was explicitly associated with the renunciation of the use or threat of force as proclaimed in the Charter of the United Nations.
