Abstract

In the German Democratic Republic (GDR) there existed a well organized network of medical and health libraries and information centres. According to hospital regulations, a medical library was to be maintained in each health care institution. The East Berlin Institute for Information on Medicine (IWIM) set standards for these libraries, issued guidelines, and collected and passed on medical information.
