Abstract

Summary: Nonunions of the distal femur are uncommon but difficult to manage. Successful treatment of these nonunions requires adherence to the proven principles for the treatment of metaphyseal nonunions: mobilization of the adjacent joint, debridement of infected tissues, realignment of the mechanical axis, mechanical stabilization, pseudoarthrosis compression, bone grafting of defects and avascular fragments, early range of motion, and late full weightbearing.
