Abstract

The treatment of three cases of invaginated teeth has been discussed. In the first case, the tooth remained vital after extension and improvement of the superficial restoration. In case 2, the dilated invagination and the root canal have been treated endodontically as one single continuous space. Obturation of the apical region with amalgam had been performed with special needles and pluggers. A follow-up visit showed apical healing and absence of suppuration, which indicated successful treatment. A nontreated invaginated tooth had to be extracted in a third patient for reason of extensive bone loss in the apical region. In vitro treatment followed by histological sections indicated that the root canal and invagination remained completely separated. Moreover, a more complex root canal morphology and less perfect obturation in certain regions were observed. In spite of these findings, clinical success might have been obtained.
