Abstract

The dynamics of nonstationary processes in a VHF generator loaded with a dielectric and excited by a high current relativistic electron beam is investigated by means of the numerical solution of the self-consistent set of Maxwell-Vlasov equations. The results are compared with the linear theory of a stationary generator. The case of a beam current above the critical value, when a virtual cathode is formed in the drift space, is also included.
