Abstract

A scheme of numerical calculations of intrinsic self-consistent electric field of a non-relativistic electron beam moving in a perfectly conducting cylindrical drift tube is proposed. It takes into account the charges, which are induced by the beam itself on the drift tube wall. Using Kirchhoff’s formula, we obtain expressions for calculations of dynamics of electrons, which can be also used for simulations of motion in a cylindrical drift tube whenever external electric and magnetic fields are present. The proposed approach is based on a preliminary calculation (and, if necessary, a subsequent interpolation) of the charge density distributions induced by a test point-like charge on the drift tube wall.
