Abstract

Intrinsic nonradiative properties of Nd 3+ in six representative fluoride glasses were investigated. Both neodymium concentration quenching and multiphonon decay are dependent on the host matrix. For the fluoride systems studied, however, the concentration quenching behavior did not vary as the host composition changed. The observed quadratic dependence of decay rate on Nd concentration follows the Förster-Dexter model.
