Abstract

In this paper, the mutual coupling effect between the fed and parasitic patches of the Non-Radiating Edge Coupled Rectangular Microstrip Antenna (RMSA) is presented. The gap coupling between fed and parasitic patches is analyzed by varying the distance between them while the mutual coupling is analyzed by varying the width of parasitic patches. The size of the parasitic patch is reduced to 10mm so that the overall size of the antenna is small (0.57λ 0 ) and it can be extended to antenna array. The antenna gives bandwidth of 6.6% from 2.11–2.25GHz and gain of 7.2 dB over the bandwidth. This antenna is extended to 2 × 2 antenna array to give bandwidth of 6% from 2.07– 2.2GHz with the gain of 10dB. Such antennas can be used on cell towers for 3G communication, MIMO systems, mobile backhaul applications and strategic communication systems.
