Abstract

One of the main tasks ensuing from the new law on the schools is to put universal compulsory education into effect. Under present conditions, when the essential differences between mental and physical work are being eradicated, every member of our society must not only have an elementary knowledge of reading and writing, but he must also have a profound, rounded education and good polytechnical training. Without all this a person cannot be a fullfledged builder of communism. That is why the Party and the Government, in the interest of society as a whole and each of its members, have posed the task of effecting the general transition from universal seven-year education to universal compulsory eight-year education by the beginning of the 1962-1963 school year.
