Abstract

It is desirable to develop non-precious metal electrocatalysts for alkaline fuel cell (AFC). In this present work, Fe-Co-Ni/C anode catalysts were prepared by impregnating method and reduced at 900{degree sign}C under a flow of H2 for 9 h. Alloy formation was confirmed by XRD. The maximum power density of 37 mW cm-2 was obtained for the cell with the Fe-Co-Ni/C anode catalyst. The NaCo2O4/C cathode catalysts were prepared by dry-up method. The maximum power density, 27 mW cm-2 was obtained for the cell with the NaCo2O4/C cathode catalyst. Though both Fe-Co-Ni/C and NaCo2O4/C catalysts leave much room for improvement, these results indicate that non-precious metal can be used as electrocatalyst for fuel cells.
