Abstract

Fluorescence line narrowing and hole burning have been observed with tetracene incorporated into an amorphous anthracene matrix formed near 4 K. At 4.2 K the width of the zero-phonon hole is ≈6 cm −1. Hole burning is ≈10 3 times more efficient than in alcoholic glasses, indicating increased coupling to phonon modes in an aromatic glass.
