Abstract

Owen (1964) has considered a sampling inspection plan for norMal random variables for which the percentage of defectives in each tail of the distribution is contrlled (with probability γ) so that they are each less than a specified value. This procedure would control the possibility of all the defectivies falling in one tail area. He has also discussed tolerance limits for which (with probability γ) no more than a specified percentage of a normal population falls, simultaneously, on either side of the tolerance limits. Danziger and Davis (1965) have considered the problem of distribution free tolerance limits where the number of observations in the tail area are not controlled. In this paper we discuss non parametric predicition intervals where the number of observations falling in the tail are controlled.
