Abstract

An estimator of the probability of occurrence of an event is developed for the case where the probability depends upon the values of some quantitative variables. The functional form of the conditional occurrence probability is assumed to be unknown. The estimator is data based and can be used when the observed values of the quantitative variables are essentially distinct. The estimation procedure is applied to the analysis of data gathered in a study of the abilities of two different kinds of salt to inhibit toxin outgrowth in processed, packaged, and stored fish steaks.
