Abstract

The time resolution of optical experiments has increased dramatically over the last 15 years. With the advent of the CPM- [1] and Ti: sapphire lasers [2] and the development of pulse compressors [3], dynamical processes can now be studied that occur on time scales well below 100 fs. When coherent optical experiments are performed on these time scales, the interpretation of the observed dynamics is preferably done in terms of two-level systems and exponential damping processes.
