Abstract

The London penetration depth λ L of high-Tc superconductors is much larger than the BCS coherence length ξ 0. Therefore, the low frequency penetration depth λ(T) can be obtained from the conductivity within a local approximation. However, this does not necessarily apply to the surface resitance R s. For sufficiently long quasiparticle mean free paths 1 the momentum-dependence of the real part σ 1 of the conductivity cannot be neglected and a fully nonlocal calculation is required for R s. Results of these calculations are presented.
