Abstract
The magnetic fluid stability in the presence of a tangential magnetic fielf and instability dynamics are studied experimentally. Nonlinear theory of instability and shape of a flat magnetic fluid surface and the theory of solitary and cnoidal waves on the cylindrical surface are developed.
