Abstract
The sum rules arising from Weinberg's algebraic realisation techniques for nonlinear SU 3 symmetry are examined. Octet enhancement for electromagnetic mass differences is motivated by reducing the linear subalgebra to U 1 × U 1. Finally, some dynamical features of the model are presented.
