Abstract
By using an asymptotic expansion technique based on the Lagrangiandensity formulation, it is demonstrated that the nonlinear interactionbetween two transverse waves propagating in a generalized elasticsolid is described asymptotically by the complex modifiedKorteweg–deVries (CMKdV) equation. Also, the CMKdV equation isshown to be Hamiltonian and its solitary wave solutions areinvestigated by means of a modified Hirota method.
