Abstract

Electromagnetic (em) wave generation using nonlinear mixing schemes in planar structures is examined. These structures, consisting of interspersed layers of dielectrics and semiconductors, are assumed to have a finite length in the direction of wave propagation. Field expressions for the generated em waves are derived using two alternate approaches: the Green’s functions method and the application of Lorentz reciprocity theorem. All expressions are readily extended if losses are taken into consideration.
