Abstract

Toluidine Blue O (TBO) dye-PVA nanocomposite films were prepared following a simple method based on solution-casting. Their morphology, linear as well as nonlinear optical properties were investigated. These nanocomposite films were characterized as nanoclustered aggregates grown within the PVA matrix. The nonlinear refraction behaviour of the nanocomposite films was investigated using Z-scan technique, under excitation with continuous wave (CW) laser light at 442nm for different peak incident intensities. The samples exhibited a negative nonlinearity and large nonlinear refractive index of the order of 10-6 cm2/W, which were better than some of the recently reported values for CW laser light excitation.
