Abstract

Solid films of the organic dye, Amido Black 10 B was prepared in polyvinyl alcohol host by guest–host method. Refractive nonlinearity of the solid medium was investigated using single beam z-scan technique under CW laser illumination at 632.8nm for three dye concentrations. All the samples exhibited a negative (defocusing) nonlinearity and large nonlinear refractive index of the order of 10−7cm2/W. The optical limiting behavior of the solid film of the dye chromophore is also demonstrated.
